The goddamn Covid pandemic has for obvious reasons dominated the past year for all of us. It has eviscerated my personal life as at the time of writing I have been sick for the past 9 months, and counting… I still do not know if this is indeed Covid-19 or another strange sickness, that I caught at the beginning of March, right smack in the middle of a global pandemic with at that point a high number of unreported cases. However with my doctors not giving a shit it’s not looking as if I will ever find out what this is.
The Lagerkoller (= cabin fever) has been growing here. I was confined to stay inside most of this year, hardly able to do any sports, as any physical effort was able to trigger a relapse of the scary symptoms. While the end of times feeling has started to lift ever so slightly now that Trump has not been re-elected, but it is by no means over as the Trump mold is starting to get copied around the world, even in our shitty little country. It’s so upsetting and how sick am I of that feeling as well, you? It sucks, innit?
This mix then is my try to beat this feeling, to beat the Lagerkoller, while brushing past all the obvious topics, death, suicide, desperation, paying honor to the sick woman theory, while at the same time trying to make it dance-able, maybe even uplifting? Who knows. Hey, at least I tried.
I am pretty proud of this mix, weaving together older and newer tracks while nicely building and releasing tension. As usual with my mixes another DJ would have mixed this together better from a technical point of view because as usual I was not able to move past the plateau phase with it. The mix includes three tracks by Boards of Canada and two by Fila Brasila, which I am fully aware are a total no no in the mixtape business. But I figured during a pandemic people need more Boards of Canada and the Fila Brazila tracks both exited me, so hey, what can I see. But I enjoy this mix and I hope you do too.
Let’s just stay strong a little longer and hope this pandemic will finally pass.
